Sunset Rocketry Club was founded in March 2002 by Nick, Jeff, Peter, and Paul. Lauren joined in October 2002. We applied for club status at Sunset High School in March 2002, and after many months of meetings, safety boards and committees, we were approved in September that year.
Throughout our short history, we have flown and designed 3 rockets. These were all meant to be qualifying rockets for the Team America Rocketry Challenge. Our members have attended various public and private launches. We have strived to develop new, unique ways to design a two-stage rocket.
Almost entirely funded through private donations and help from OregonRocketry, Sunset Rocketry Club intends to involve many more at Sunset High School and surrounding high schools with the exciting field of Rocketry.
Sunset Rocketry Club has been the forerunner in student run high school rocket clubs. We are the first to have documented our progress and failures, with exacting detail on our website and in other physical mediums. We are also the first high school rocketry club in Beaverton School District in over 20 years, and possibly the only official high school rocketry club in the state of Oregon.
Sunset Rocketry Club hopes to continue its mission to introduce rocketry as a club activity into the larger education system, even after current members graduate from Sunset High School.
